Joe Chernov (Director of Content for Eloqua), blogged recently about giving away the “Eloqua Social Media Playbook”, a 42 page guide to conducting business (and yourself) on the Social Web.
There is something both thrilling and humbling about taking your best work, undressing it of all commercial value, and giving it away for free. But I am beginning to think the thrill outweighs the humility, because for the second time this week, I am giving away a major resource to anyone who wants to repurpose it for his own gain.
Here’s a one page sample:

The grass is always greener, right? After you start working from home you may sleep a little later (after all the commute time is saved), you can wear whatever you want and there’s no office politics. But there may be unforeseen repercussions or unintended consequences. The Oatmeal.com humorously illustrates both the awesome and horrible aspects of working at home. Jesse Thomas of award-winning creative agency Jess3 has been working through an infographic challenge: trying to accurately depict the size of the key players in the geo / social space and has created a handy visual of the size of the internet’s behemoths—including Skype, Facebook, Yahoo Mail—and new tech companies on the scene like Foursquare and BrightKite. The infographic also includes a visualization of each company’s proportion of users who access the service through a mobile gadget.

Ah – hem, in the near future, there will be more “things” on the internet (especially sensors) than humans. This will become a global “data field”.
The upside as described in the video is BIG:
“When we talk about a smarter planet, you can say that it has two dimensions. One is to be more efficient, be less destructive, to connect different aspects of life which do affect each other in more conscience and deliberate and intelligent ways. But the other is also to generate fundamentally new insights, new activity, new forms of social relations. So you could look at the planet as More >

Charlene Li, social media analyst and co-author of “groundswell – winning in a world transformed by social technologies”, spoke on the future of Social Networks (slides are available on SlideShare, summary available at allfacebook) on March 6, 2008. She stated:
I believe that in the future, social networks will be like air. They will be anywhere and everywhere we need and want them to be. And also, without that social context in our connected lives, we won’t really feel like we are truly living and alive, just as without sufficient air, we won’t really be able to breathe deeply.
