Globalization has changed the economic playing field – but it wasn’t a leveling. The world is actually spiky and the spikes are growing higher! Whether it be population, innovation, economic activity or almost any human activity, some places measure much higher than others:

Richard Koch in “The 80/20 Principle” reminds us of Pareto’s pattern studies in 19th century Italy. Pareto’s observations of predictably unbalanced distributions have become known as the 80/20 principle. Richard Koch found that the basic imbalance observed by Pareto can be found in almost every area of modern life.
Richard Florida is a social scientist who has a new book entitled “Who’s Your City” in which he argues that globalization is not flattening the world and that, in fact, place – where you live and work – is more important than ever.
