Kacy Stuart, 14 years old, is a good football kicker, but she is a girl.  She was recently a member of the New Creation Center (NCC) high school football team (the Crusaders) in McDonough, Georgia.  The New Creation Center is a member of the Georgia Football League.   However, the Georgia Football League (GFL) directed NCC to remove her from their football team.  From the GFL web site:

The Georgia Football League is a private organization founded upon Christian principles to offer a high school football league for homeschool teams (boys who homeschool or who attend Christian schools or private schools with no football programs) and Christian school teams (boys from their Christian school and who may also have boys who homeschool on their team). Boys must meet the eligibility requirements of the GFL in order to play.

The GFL was formed to provide high school football for boys.  It was not formed to provide high school football for “good players” of either gender.  That rule was written long before Kacy transferred to a private school and joined their football team.  Additionally the NCC officials should be aware of what is stated in the first sentence of the GFL web page.

Football play is rough and injuries do occur.  I would not want my daughter getting hit and hurt while playing football.  For an opposing view go to the Back Porch.

I was at the NCC Crusaders vs. North Georgia Falcons football game last Friday night, September 12, 2008 at the South Cherokee Recreation Association (SCRA) football field.  My boys are on the North Georgia Falcons football team which is a member of the GFL.  The Falcons won the game.

What do you think? Should all high school sports be mixed gender?
