The overall purpose of this new development according to the website is “to help the DoD community use social media and other internet-based capabilities to share responsibility and effectively, both in official and unofficial capacities.”

DOD Social Media Hub.  Thankfully, DOD is facing up to the reality of social media and not keeping it’s head stuck in the sand.  The DoD is definitely on the right track for effectively using and sharing the responsibility of social media with their agencies, employees, and the government community – this is an interesting case study on a huge bureaucracy accepting and using fundamental change while leveraging concepts and practices from the private sector.
