Yes, I’ve read David Allen’s fine book Getting Things Done, maybe the most popular version of the concept of Business Process Management (BPM). There are lots of other management systems/philosophies too, most of them created by business consultants.

Good stuff, much of it, GTD, TQM and the like. But I have a bone to pick.

And before I begin this semi-rant, here’s something about me: I’m a small business owner, not a consultant. I’ve had Centratel, for twenty-five years and over the past ten years have been deeply buried in creating my More >

Happy Odd Couple: Suryia & Roscoe

Suryia the orangutan and Roscoe the blue tick hound became best friends upon meeting each other!

Both Suryia and (now) Roscoe live at The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species in Myrtle Beach, SC. This story just recently aired on "Oprah" and will be featured this fall on National Geographic Channel’s show "Odd Couples".

“As soon as he saw Roscoe, Suryia ran over to him and they started playing,” Bhagavan Antle, founder of TIGERS Antle told UK’s Daily Mail. “‘It was unusual because dogs are usually scared of primates but they took to each other straight away.”

Star Wars vs. Star Trek – The Mashup

Could the Empire subdue the Federation?

Never underestimate the power of the Force!

I watched the orignial Star Trek episodes on TV, then saw the first Star Wars movie in the theater.  I’m a fan of both fictional universes.

Comparison of Star Trek and Star Wars

From wikipedia: Differences

Star Wars was inspired by the Flash Gordon adventure serials of the 1940s[3] and presents an elemental struggle between good and evil.[2] Star Trek was conceived in the style of the TV western Wagon Train but adopted a more adult tone, providing an idealistic, utopian prospect of future human society. Richard Ho, writing for The Harvard Crimson, states that the heroes of More >

Whale Encounter: Man – Whale Interaction

via:  National Geographic

“We were standing on the bottom in very cold water—40, 39 degrees—and we’re down at 70 feet and this 45-foot, 70-ton whale glides across the bottom. My assistant is just dwarfed next to this thing. I think that the perspective and the whole man-whale interaction—that is a special photograph.” – Brian Skerry

“They dive 600 feet, brushing their heads along the seafloor with raised, wartlike patches of skin, sometimes swimming upside down, big as sunken galleons, hot-blooded and holding their breath in cold and utter darkness while the greatest tides on Earth surge by.”

Paul Newman 1925 – 2008

Paul Newman passed on last Friday, September 26th, 2008 after a long battle with lung cancer.

He was one of the GREAT actors and businessmen of the 20th Century.  This is the man who captured Joanne Woodward’s heart.  He was an extraordinary example of life, love, family and generosity.  He didn’t just succeed and prosper – he succeeded and gave back!

An inspiring tribute to Paul Newman the philanthropist.
