In the 30’s Route 66 was the busiest road in America. The entire 2300 mile stretch from Chicago to Los Angeles was continuously paved by 1938. John Steinbeck, in his 1939 novel The Grapes of Wrath named Route 66 the “Mother Road”. The movie was made a year later and firmly placed “Route 66” deep into the American consciousness.

Performance Photography or Light Art
Oct 14th
Light is all around us, but we often don’t really notice it. Our eyes are sensitive to light but they also compensate, so we often don’t see things as they really are. Film is sensitive to light, or in digital cameras it is the photoelectric light sensor known as a charge coupled device or CCD. Film and CCDs record the light focused onto them for a short period of time in the camera and they record the light just as it is.
These images were made using Light Art Performance Photography (LAPP) which is done by making longer exposures and capturing moving lights. More >
Great Photographers: Henri Cartier-Bresson

“Brie” by Henri Cartier-Bresson, June 1968, Brie, France
This photo, “Brie”, was taken by one of the great photographers of the 20th century – Henri Cartier-Bresson (August 22, 1908 – August 3, 2004), considered to be the father of modern photojournalism.
In an interview with the Washington Post in 1957 he said:
Photography is not like painting. There is a creative fraction of a second when you are taking a picture. Your eye must see a composition or an expression that life itself offers you, and you must know with intuition when to click the camera.
